INFO THAT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE … Spring may have officially begun March 20, but the spring home buying party got started more than a month before that. This was evidenced when Pending Home Sales shot up 5.5% in February to its highest level in almost a year and its second highest level in more than a decade. The index of contracts signed on existing homes is 2.6% ahead of last year and anticipates nice gains for those sales in coming months. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) chief economist feels “the stock market’s continued rise and steady hiring in most markets is spurring significant interest in buying.”

INFO THAT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE … People don’t appear to have too many objections to buying a home these days. Existing Home Sales are up 5.4% over last year, even after dipping 3.7% in February, following January’s numbers, which hit at a ten-year high. The 5.48 million unit annual rate shows healthy demand, but in most markets we need more listings.

INFO THAT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE … One could be pessimistic if one only paid attention to the headline numbers of some economic reports. Take Housing Starts, which declined 2.6% in January. But there was plenty to be optimistic about. First, January’s 1.246 million unit annual rate handily beat expectations.
