Michael Kern

A Woodworker’s Eye for Detail and Fine Craftsmanship

Custom homebuilding was not the first career in which Michael Kern has excelled. He carved a unique niche for himself and his company in the late 1970s with his devotion to fine cabinet-making and custom woodworking. His performance on high-profile projects solidified his reputation as an award-winning master craftsman, and his work became sought after by discerning clients.

Under the guidance of Master Builder Paul Heiman, a traditional woodworker/carpenter, Kern apprenticed all phases of the design and construction process. This ultimately led to his oversight of 75 building projects. He was introduced to the Santa Fe style of design and architecture when he was hired to build a replica of the famous Taos-based Mabel Dodge Lujan Homestead for a client in Colorado. This noteworthy project accelerated his interest and passion for this unique style, and facilitated his move to Santa Fe in 1990.

Since then, Kern has expanded his love for traditional building methods and indigenous architecture to encompass a more diverse perspective. Simultaneously, he ensures that his homes are modern and efficient. “The nature of fine cabinet-making and woodworking forces a craftsman to be fully engaged with his project. We are dedicated to fine workmanship and diligent in all aspects of custom homebuilding.”

Michael Kern has completed 17 homes in Las Campanas, including his latest at 15 Raindance Ct. in Estates IV.
